I'm in Ecuador!! I am sitting in my new, baller room, halfway unpacked.
Let's back up first. I got slammed with work my last few weeks with UNFPA. What was worse, Sammy and Lesli left me to return to the 'deis. As crazy as it got, it was totally worth it. I now have a sweet letter of recommendation and plenty of material to report back to the WOW scholarship with (there is a WHOLE LOT of follow-up work). My second to last day, the office surprised me with a strawberry-and-peach-topped cake and I had to make a little speech (in Spanish!). I wanted to run around like crazy my last weekend and see everything ever that I had yet, but it was rainy and we decided it was better to watch movies, play battleship, make a documentary on the shaving of Elio's afro, bake cookies, and learn origami. I spent all day Monday packing and running errands and then bam, it was today and I was on an airplane! I was very sad to leave my lovely Panamanian home.
I was supposed to have a 7-hour layover in Bogota, but that flight got canceled and I got bumped to a much earlier one--had to do some scrambling with pick-up arrangements--and ended up in Quito by 4pm. Met my familia: a lovely older couple and a precious little angel of a dog. i have a sweet house and room. The view of the city and mountains in unbelievable. I start orientation tomorrow morning. I hope the other kid like me! =o) haha, no it's really exciting. AND my Spanish has been functioning surprisingly well.
